What is a Hat Box?

Hat boxes have been around since early Chinese dynasties from thousands of years ago, but the contemporary hat box that most people think of originated in late eighteenth century England.  At this time, hats were very popular among men and women, and they needed a place to keep all their hats from getting damaged. Thus, the hat box was born. There are many uses for hat boxes apart from a place to keep your hat. You can keep all of your hats in a hat box from top hats to king’s crowns. But, the reason for their return to popularity is that they have become very popular for unique home decoration and creative minds have found many uses for them.

Shapes and Sizes

Hat boxes are traditionally round, hexagonal or oval. They can be found as a single box, but also can be found in a set of three. The sets of three include a large, medium and small box which are stacked into the in ascending order from large to small. Most hat boxes that are not for decorative purposes have two straps made of chord to carry it.

Hat Boxes for Display

Today, many stores have found that stacking hat boxes make great displays for storefronts and product displays. Photographers also frequently use stacks of hat boxes for photo shoots. Hat boxes are great for display because they come in a multitude of colors, designs and materials.
